The National Dengue Control Unit warns of an increased risk of the spread of dengue and chikungunya in the aftermath of the recent floods.
Leftover plastic items, polythene, small containers and other receptacles can collect stagnant water as the floodwaters gradually recede and hence provide an ideal breeding site for mosquitoes.
So the Consultant Community Physician, Dr Prashila Samarawira of the National Dengue Control Unit said that it is high time everybody comes forward and identifies all possible mosquito breeding sites in their houses, villages, towns and areas and puts an end to those.
