Heavy rains in catchment areas

News

The Nuwara Eliya district has received heavy rains following the unpredictable weather in the central highlands.

Rivers and streams have overflowed due to continuous rains in many parts of the Nuwara Eliya district since last night.

The water levels in the reservoirs have risen due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas.

Two sluice gates of the Upper Kotmale Reservoir, three sluice gates of the Maskelia-Maussakala Reservoir, one overhead gate of the Kenyon Reservoir and two sluice gates of the Laxapana Reservoir were opened this morning (11).

The water level of Castlereagh Reservoir has risen after it received more than 50 millimeters of rain this morning.

Meanwhile, due to heavy rains in the Vimala Surendra Reservoir located in the Northenbridge area, water is flowing through the six gates of the reservoir.

People living in the low lying areas below the reservoirs are requested to be very vigilant.
