Hemali Sujeewa Weerasekara, a member of the National People’s Power, has been elected as the Deputy Chairperson of Committees in Sri Lanka’s 10th Parliament.
Her name was proposed by Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti and seconded by MP Samanmali Gunasinghe.
A teacher and former local councillor, she represents the Gampaha Electoral District.
Meanwhile, Speaker of Parliament Dr. Asoka Ranwala announced that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has officially recognized Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Sajith Premadasa as the Leader of the Opposition.
The announcement was made during the inaugural session of the 10th Parliament, with the Speaker relaying the President’s decision to the House.
