Police have arrested a man and a woman in connection with an incident where an individual was shot and then hacked with a sharp weapon in Hambantota.
Police Media Unit said the incident had occurred on July 11 this year. The victim was traveling in a motor vehicle when he was shot and thereafter hacked with a sharp weapon and seriously injured.
The Tangalle Crime Investigation Unit yesterday (11) arrested a male suspect in connection with the attack from Wadigala in Hungama. His wife was arrested for aiding and abetting the crime. They were handed over to the Hambantota Police.
The male suspect is 29 years of age while the female suspect is aged 23. Both are residents of Wadigala, Ranna.
Further interrogation of the male suspect revealed he was also connected to three instances of theft of cows in Hambantota and Hungama. Six warrants for his arrest had also been issued by the Hambantota and Wellawaya Magistrate's Courts.
Both suspects were produced before the Hambantota Magistrate's Court yesterday and were placed in remand custody until September 20. Hambantota Police are investigating.
