The International Monetary Fund (IMF) hosted a meeting at the Ministry of Power and Energy on Tuesday, March 11, to examine the operations and obligations of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and to assess the progress made thus far.
According to Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera’s post on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), the delegation headed by Peter Breuer, Senior Mission Chief for the IMF in Sri Lanka, has reportedly investigated the tariff reduction in the electricity sector, the 2023 balance sheets of the CEB and CPC, and the current financial positions of the state-owned electricity supplier.
The established accounting standards and principles, the automation of the Bulk Supply Transaction Account (BSTA) filling process, the upcoming dispatch audit, the prediction for 2024, the CPC pricing formula, and CPC operations were all covered and discussed.
Participants in these talks were State Minister of Finance Shehan Semasinghe, representatives from the Ministry of Power and Energy, the Ministry of Finance, the CEB, the CPC, and the IMF.
