A 26 year old youth was injured when military personnel opened fire at miners who were engaged in illegal sand mining activities in Munthanai river area, Eravur, Karadiyanaru police said.
Preliminary investigations by police said that military personnel opened fire at miners who were engaged in sand mining despite prior warnings issued in the past.
The injured youth was admitted to Chenkaladi hospital but later transferred to Batticaloa teaching hospital for further treatment. Karadiyanaru police are conducting further investigations over the incident. (Pix & News by L. Theva)
