State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya yesterday (June 7) announced that the present import restrictions on 300 items are expected to be lifted by the end of this week.
The decision was reached in view of the greater availability of US dollars, he added.
Minister Siyambalapitiya further gave an emphasis on sustaining local industries is among the Government’s priorities. Thus, import restrictions on domestic products will not be eased at the moment.
The Government executed a stoppage on importing 1,465 items owing to the shortfall of foreign exchange in April, 2022.
