The annual "Athupandalama" ritual of the Kataragama Devalaya took place today (24) in view of the Devalaya's Esala Perahera.
The ceremony marks the thatching of the hut in front of the Devalaya using 'Maadam' branches. A tusker is normally used to present the first branch to thatch the roof.
This year, the ritual was performed by "Kandula," the main tusker of the Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya.
