Environmental groups staged a protest at the Sarakkuwa Beach yesterday demanding the government to accelerate the coastal cleaning processing following the X-Press Pearl inferno.
Chinthaka Waragoda, a local entrepreneur who developed a machine to separate nurdles, sludge and waste coming from the ship claimed that the authorities have requested him to halt its operations. As such, the protesters demanded the government to conduct a proper damage assessment and provide fair compensation to the fishing community.
