In many instances, those who lined up in front of liquor stores failed to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines such as wearing masks and social distance.
In North, following complaints lodged by locals, police along with military personnel warned those who violated COVID-19 regulations but the liquor shops remained open to serve customers.
In Puttalam, leading grocery stores in the town remained closed while liquor shops were kept open for business.
