Three-wheel drivers held a protest in Colombo today demanding the government to increase their National Fuel Pass quota from five litres to 25-30 litres a week.
They charged that the allocated meagre amount is insufficient for those who rely on hires and transporting goods. Lease payments and increased cost of living has left about 500,000 professional three wheel drivers struggling, the protestors said.
Meanwhile, three wheel driver unions said the Inspector General of Police has issued an order to allow three wheeler drivers to obtain their fuel quota from any filling station not limited to their relevant police area. This was following instructions from Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekare.
