The newly constructed Courts complex in Ratnapura was declared open by President Ranil Wickremesinghe on Tuesday.
The complex built at a cost of Rs.1500 million consists of two High Courts, one Civil Appeal Court, two Magistrate Courts and one legal aid centre.
President Wickremesinghe said the Cabinet approved the building of the Courts complex during his term as the Prime Minister and the construction work commenced in September, 2018.
He said delays in judicial processes should be prevented, while making changes to the 200 year old court system in the country.
The President said the Parliament will have to meet at least thrice a week and not twice in order to pass new Acts.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Minister Dr.Wijeyadasa Rajapaksa said about 30 laws are to be introduced to curb corruption.
Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, State Minister of Justice Anuradha Jayaratne, Chief Sanganayake of SriPada and Vice Chancellor of Uva Wellassa Ven. Bengamuwe Dhammadinna thero, Minister Pavitra Wanniarachchi, Sabaragamuwa Governor Naveen Dissanayake, MPs Thalatha Athukorale and W.D.J.Seneviratne, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Gamini Waleboda, Akila Ellawala, Attorney General Sanjaya Rajaratnam, judges and members of the Ratnapura Bar Association attended the opening ceremony.
