The number of COVID-19 patients in the outstations is on the increase surpassing the figures in the Western province, the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has warned.
GMOA spokesman Dr Haritha Aluthge said that almost 60 per cent of the patients were now being reported from the outstations compared to the previous situation where most cases were reported from Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara.
For the first time the number of COVID-19 patients from Badulla was reported to be the highest on Sunday compared to the other areas.
Dr Aluthge said that it was alarming that cases were now being reported from very remote areas and also had spread to factories.
Among the other areas where there has been a high number of cases are Kandy, Kurunegala, Ratnapura and Matale areas.
Meanwhile Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council Dr Ruwan Wijemuni said that the number of cases reported from the Colombo city compared to the previous month has shown a decline.
Five more COVID-19 related deaths were reported on Sunday.
