National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit K. Doval arrived in Colombo today morning.
His visit is aimed at following up on the ongoing Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) initiative, and he is also expected to hold meetings with various political leaders in Colombo, the Hindu reported.
As of now, no official statement has been released regarding Mr. Doval’s visit, which comes just three weeks ahead of Sri Lanka’s Presidential elections scheduled for September 21.
Political sources in Colombo, representing different parties, have confirmed that they were invited to meet with the high-ranking Indian official.
During his visit, Mr. Doval will review the progress of the Colombo Security Conclave, a regional security initiative that started as a trilateral effort between India, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives.
The Conclave has since expanded to include Mauritius and Bangladesh as full members, with the Seychelles participating as an observer.
