Injured dolphin treated and released by Wildlife
An injured Spinner Dolphin which had reached to hikkaduwa beach several days back were recently released back to sea after treating it at the Marine Conservation Center Dodanduwa operated under Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) .
A senior official of the DWC said that the wounded Dolphin had reached Hikkaduwa beach when it was detected by a group of fishermen few days back. They have captured the animal and had handed over it the DWC officers.
The officers had attempted to release the Dolphin back to the sea after applying medicines but it had repeatedly reached the beach therefore they had brought the Dolphin to the Marine Conservation Center in Dodanduwa and had held it in a large tank until it recovered.
The officials said that this was the first time they carried out ex situ conservation of a dolphin and release back to sea.
