A People's Liberation Front (JVP) led delegation led by its leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with India’s External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr S. Jaishankar in New Delhi today following an official invitation extended by the Indian government.
Following the meeting, Dr Jaishankar tweeted on platform X, formerly known as Twitter: “A good discussion on our bilateral relationship and the mutual benefits from its further deepening. Also spoke about Sri Lanka’s economic challenges and the path ahead.
India, with its Neighbourhood First and SAGAR policies will always be a reliable friend and trusted partner of Sri Lanka.” he said.
This is the first time India invited the left leaning political party to New Delhi for engagement. The delegation is scheduled to meet with various Indian government officials, business bodies and engage in industrial visits in Ahmedabad, and Thiruvananthapuram during their five day visit.
