The chief suspect who was the mastermind in extorting Rs 1.5 million from the former chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), Janaka Ratnayake has been arrested, Police said today.
The suspect was arrested near the Wellampitiya post office on Saturday morning and Police recovered 12 grams and 240 miligrams of ICE drugs with him.
He is a 42 year old resident from Sulthanagoda, Matara.
Earlier five suspects, were arrested in connection of the same incident.
Mr Ratnayake complained to the Kirulapone Police on October 16 that he received a phone call claiming he had received a contract to assassinate him, and inorder stop executing the contract he wanted Rs 1.5 million.
The man had claimed that he had received the contract from an underworld gang leader residing in Dubai.
Mr Ratnayake had handed over the money in fear that his life would be harmed.
