The "Law Asia Data Protection Symposium 2024," themed around "Data Protection in the Asia-Pacific Region under Artificial Intelligence," was held yesterday (06) in Colombo.
This event was organized by the Asia-Pacific Legal Association's Information and Communication Technology Committee.
Thr symposium featured Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya as the chief guest and the participation of other distinguished guests including Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe as well as the Chairman of Law Asia, Senior Counsel Shyam Divan.
This international symposium was held under the guidance of Dr. Sunil Abeyratne, who currently chairs the Asia-Pacific Legal Association's Information and Communication Technology Committee.
The "Colombo Declaration" was unveiled at the conclusion of the event, advocating for better data protection laws in the Asia-Pacific region as well as globally.
The symposium brought together experts from various fields, facilitating in-depth discussions on the critical challenges of data protection in the realm of artificial intelligence where it provided a platform for exchanging ideas on rapidly evolving personal data governance.
