The Ministerial Consultative Committee on Woman, Child Affairs and Social Empowerment is to draft laws to prevent the media from exposing children in events involving children.
Attention on the above was directed at the Ministerial Consultative Committee meeting held recently under the chairmanship of State Minister Geetha Kumarasinghe.
Parliament media said the exposure of children by media in a recent incident in the Millaniya area was discussed and members of the committee agreed on the need to formulate a law.
It was discussed to introduce a special procedure to be followed while reporting on child convicts produced before the law.
Ms. Kumarasinghe said officials have been informed to allocate a separate room for the Children's and Women's Bureau and four female police officers to be deployed to each police station.
Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa, State Minister Shantha Bandara, Members of Parliament Vajira Abeywardena, Buddhika Pathirana, Sanjeeva Edirimanna, Sampath Athukorala, Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Jagath Kumara Sumithraarachchi, Rajika Wickramasinghe, Madhura Withanage, Muditha Prishanthi, Manjula Dissanayake, Gamini Waleboda, Anupa Pasqual were present at the Committee meeting held.
