The 77th National Independence Day will be held tomorrow under the theme "Let's Join the National Renaissance."
Director of Traffic and Road Safety SSP Indika Hapugoda today announced that nearly 1,000 police officers will be deployed for traffic management.
Several roads will be closed, including Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Torrington Junction, Premakeerthi de Alwis Mawatha the road from RFP junction leading to the Ministry of Public Administration and the road leading to Vidyarama Mawatha through Wijerama Vidya Mawatha.
Restrictions will also apply to Independence Avenue, entering Maitland Crescent through Independence junction, Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha, entering Independence Avenue through Padanam Mawatha junction, Independence square through Independence junction, Horton junction through Library junction, and Independence Mawatha through Padanam Mawatha.
To ease traffic, alternative routes have been suggested. Those entering Colombo from Nanda Motors should proceed to Independence Junction, turn left onto Phillip Gunawardena Mawatha, continue through Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha to Bauddhaloka Mawatha, and then choose either turn left to the Borella Cemetery route or turn right towards Thummulla.
Residents in restricted areas will be required to show identification for access.
