Several parts of Sri Lanka are likely to witness light rainfall today, says the Department of Meteorology.
Hence, light showers will scatter across the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces along with Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Matara districts.
Showers are most likely to fall out in the Northern and Eastern provinces and in the Polonnaruwa district during the morning hours.
The Met. Dept further mentioned that several places in the Uva province and in the Ampara, Batticaloa districts may experience showers or thundershowers in the evening hours.
All the while, showers or thundershowers will pass off at a few places in the off shore areas extending from Mannar to Batticaloa via Kankesanthurai and Trincomalee.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the Island.
It has been forecasted that South-westerly winds of about 20-30 KMPH may advance into 40-50 KMPH at times in the marine areas off the coast extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Puttalam to Kankesanthurai via Mannar.
The sea areas off the coast widening from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be moderately rough periodically.
In the meantime, strong gusts of wind and stormy seas are also foreseen during thundershowers.
