State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals, Prof. Channa Jayasumana claimed that they would not increase the maximum retail prices (MRP) of 60 essential drugs and some non essential drugs.
He explained that despite the floating of the rupee, they would keep the MRP of 60 essential drugs and some non essential drugs unchanged for at least for two months
However, pharmacists also pointed out that the MRP is only imposed on 60 drugs and therefore the rest of the drug prices are increasing. They also said that some brands of drugs are unavailable in the market.
