The main opposition party Samagi Jana balawegaya boycotted the two day debate on President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s policy statement claiming that there was no benefit of taking part in the sessions and they were concentrating on the election campaign.
The General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Ranjith Madduma Banadra explaining their position said that policy statements are made by the President to inform of important policy decisions or taking a move to renew the country.
“However today the country is stagnating in the same place. The President at numerous times stated the country is in a bad position, and we are facing a difficult time. We do not need to waste time on that.”
Mr Bandara elaborated they are more concerned with the local election campaign.
The MPs of the Nidhasa Jantha Sabaha (Freedom People's Alliance) walked out of the chamber yesterday before the President commenced his speech. Meanwhile MP’s of the SJB and the NPP were not present in the parliament chamber.
