The Court of Appeal today 13) granted bail for activist Major (Retired) Ajith Prasanna, who was in remand custody over the charges of intimidating witnesses linked to disappearances cases of 11 youths.
Three defendants including Ajith Prasanna and two other naval intelligence officers were accused of intimidating witnesses by holding a press briefing over the case. They were charged under the provisions of Victims of Crime and Witnesses Protection Act.
Earlier Colombo Magistrate’s Court refused to grant bail and dismissed bail applications.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
