The Government has launched a major clean up operation in the Kandy city and surroundings following the completion of the 10-day exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic at the Siri Dalada Maligawa.
The city has been divided into 10 zones and will be implemented in 28 locations with the involvement of several organisations and volunteers.
The Sri Lanka Navy backed by the Irrigation Department and the Archeological Department with the Clean Sri Lanka team have undertaken to clean the Kandy Lake.
The Dalada Maligawa, surroundings of the lake, Rathu Bokkuwa to Pittchmalwatta road, D.S.Senanayake road to the Katugastota bridge, streets in the Kandy town, and the surroundings of the Railway station are among the zones.
The move amidst widespread critisisam that the visitors for the ‘Dalada Wandanawa’ had polluted the city and the lake by dumping garabage haphazardly.
Meanwhile thousands of devotees attended the final day of the exposition of the sacred tooth relics.
