A 59 year old man was arrested along with four conch shells (valampuri) worth over ten million rupees in Shantipuram, Mannar, police said.
Based on a tip-off received by Mannar police, the shells were discovered in a house during a search operation conducted by a group of its officers.
The suspect, a resident of the Shantipuram, was apprehended while the shells were to be sold illegally.
The suspect is to be produced before Mannar Magistrate’s Court.

The Government today tabled in the House the Report of the Commission to Inquiry into the Establishment and Maintenance of Unlawful Places of Detention and Torture Chambers in the Batalanda Housing Scheme.
