Matara Journalists conclude fourth phase of ’’Senehase Athwela’’ programme

The Matara Journalists' Association has successfully completed the fourth phase of their "Senehase Athwela" (Hand of Compassion) relief programme, titled "Polruppawen Thalruppawata" (From the Coconut Groves to the Palmyrah Palms). According to the Secretary of the Matara Journalists' Association, Yasantha Ariyasena, the initiative took place on the 23rd and 24th of this month, covering the Puttalam District and the Northern Province. The mission aimed to provide support to fellow journalists who were severely affected by the recent Cyclone Ditwah.

Relief was provided to 20 journalists in the Puttalam District and Northern Province who suffered losses due to the disaster. This follows the successful completion of the first, second and third phases of the "Senehase Athwela" programme.

The project was primarily sponsored by Harischandra Mills PLC, Matara, and the Devinuwara Upulvan Sri Vishnu Maha Devalaya.

A wide range of religious leaders and public figures contributed to the success of this phase, including: Ven. Denagama Rahula Thera (Acting Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha), Ven. Yahalmulle Chandananda Thera, Ven. Tissamaharama Indananda Thera, Ven. Mawelle Chandima Thera, and Rev. Father Charles Hewawasam (Administrator of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Matara), Former Minister Dullas Alahapperuma, Ayurvedic Doctor Buddhika Seneviratne, Tharindu Yapa Abeywardena, and Nihal Ranjith (Chairman of Lanka Rolls).
