The Vice-Chairman of Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha, K.G. Jayatissa and two others have been arrested for threatening the protesting teachers and principals earlier this month, police said.
The two others arrested are ruling party councillors of the Pradeshiya Sabha. The suspects are to be produced before courts today (10), Mawanella police said.
The threat resulted in angry responses from unions, with the Teacher-Principal Trade Union Alliance headed by Ceylon Teachers Union’s Joseph Stalin and Teacher Services Union’s Mahinda Jayasinghe leading a protest in front of Mawanella police station yesterday (9).
