Medical students are the latest group to voice against the controversial Kotelawala Defence University Bill that is yet to pass in Parliament.
For the past few weeks, teachers and principals, university lecturers and Inter University Student Federation held and continue to hold protests against the bill alleging that the government is attempting to militarize the education system. The Medical Faculty Student Action Committee launched a protest march yesterday (4) starting from the Medical Faculty of University of Colombo’s Medical Faculty premises to the Lipton Roundabout.
Though scheduled to be presented in Parliament tomorrow (06) for the third reading of the Bill, the government decided to postpone in order to obtain further public and expert recommendations.
