The Meteorology Department’s Natural Hazards Early Warning Center issued an advisory on strong winds today.
According to the advisory strong winds of about (55-60) kmph can be expected at times over Western slopes of the central hills and in Northern, North-central, and Central provinces and in Puttalam, Trincomalee, Monaragala and Hambantota districts due to the active south-west monsoonal condition.
Fairly strong winds about (40-50) kmph can be expected at times elsewhere of the island.
The Meteorology department called the general public to be cautious of potential hazards caused by damaged roof tiles or sheets and to be cautious of fallen trees and power lines.
The Department said for emergency assistance to contact the local disaster management authorities and called to be attentive about future advisories issued by them.
They said that the advisory is valid until Saturday, 26, 2025
