The Colombo High Court today ordered two former LTTE cadres to pay Rs 200,000 compensation to Minister Doulas Devananda for causing injuries to him during a visit to the Kalutara prisons in 1998.
High Court Judge Nawaratna Marasinghe also passed a 22 month jail term suspended for 15 years on the two former LTTE cadres.
The two convicted S.Skandaraja from Jaffna and Nirmalan Rohan from Batticaloa were also fined Rs 40,000 each.
Mr Devananda suffered 27 serious injuries.
The two persons pleaded guilty for the offence of attempted murder and causing injuries to Mr Devananda who was at that time a member of Parliament.
Mr Devananda was on a visit to the prison on July 20, 1998 to look into the welfare for prisoners with the view of providing further relief to inmates.
