Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha represented Sri Lanka at the "Transforming Education Summit" held in New York during the 77nd UN General Assembly.
The main objective of the summit was to find solutions to the global education crisis. Heads of State and many Education Ministers from around the world were present at this summit.
The launch of the International Finance Facility for Education (IFFEd) that would focus on providing financial assistance to revive education in countries severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and the global economic crisis also took place simultaneously.
The country's education sector will benefit under the IFFEd as a result of the presentation by the Minister at the summit on the effects of the pandemic and economic crisis have had on Sri Lanka's education, the Education Ministry said in a statement.
