A three member ministerial committee has been appointed to study and make recommendations on how the government should respond to the sanctions imposed on four Sri Lankan nationals including three former military commanders by the United Kingdom.
The Commiteee comprises Minister of Foreign Affairs Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitja Herath,
Minister of Justice and National Harshana Nanayakkara and Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara
Cabinet decided to appoint a committee to submit a report with recommendations for further measures to be taken after studying the facts in this regard.
The Commiteee was also empowered to obtain services of any experts in the relevant fields.
The UK recently imposed sanctions on former Head of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, Shavendra Silva,
former Navy Commander, Wasantha Karannagoda,
former Commander of the Sri Lankan Army, Jagath Jayasuriya and
former military commander of the terrorist group, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
