Two consignments of Pfizer vaccines purchased by Sri Lanka from the United States arrived at the Katunayake Airport this morning (12) on two aircraft, Officer in Charge at the airport said.
The first lot of 26,000 doses was flown in from Qatar on flight QR-668 at 2.35 am while another undisclosed amount of vaccines were brought in from Dubai on SriLankan Airlines flight UL 226 at 5.35 am.
After unloading the first consignment, the vaccines were transported by the Sri Lanka Pharmaceuticals Corporation's special refrigerated lorries to its central storage facility in Colombo.
The second consignment of Pfizer vaccines were sent for the US Embassy in Sri Lanka, a spokesman for SriLankan Airlines cargo division said.
Airport sources said the these vaccines were meant to be used on staff of the US Embassy and other Western embassies in Sri Lanka.
