Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces along with Puttalam, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts will experience showers today (14) according to the Department of Meteorology.
The Met dept. further predicts that moderately heavy showers of about 50mm are very likely at several areas in Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle, and Matara districts.
In addition, a few showers are due in Hambantota and Kurunegala districts.
Showers or thundershowers have been forecasted in many parts of Uva province and in Batticaloa and Ampara districts during the evening or night.
Northern, North-central, North-western provinces, Western slopes of central hills as well as Trincomalee and Hambantota districts are expected to witness moderately high winds of about 40-45 KMPH intermittently.
Showers or thundershowers are on the cards at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Matara at times.
The forecast further indicated that South-westerly winds of about 30-40 KMPH may advance into 55-60 KMPH occasionally in the marine areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kakesanturai and from Hambantota to Pottuvil
In the meantime, turbulent waters are expected in the maritime zones off the coast extending from Chilaw to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai and from Hambantota to Pottuvil periodically.
Moreover, development of swell on wave heights of about 2.0-2.5 can be anticipated in sea areas off the coast widening from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
Strong gusts of wind and stormy seas are also foreseen during thundershowers transiently.
