The article included references relating to Sampath Bank PLC that may have created an inaccurate impression regarding the bank’s involvement in the matters discussed. In particular, references suggesting the occurrence of fraud within Sampath Bank and the arrest of its officers are not accurate.

For clarity:

• No fraud has occurred within Sampath Bank in relation to the matters referred to in the article;
• No officer or employee of Sampath Bank, including any staff at the Pottuvil branch, has been arrested, remanded, or charged in connection with these matters;

Sampath Bank has complied with all applicable regulatory requirements, including relevant reporting obligations.

The statements in our article dated April 12, 2026 that conveyed an impression contrary to the above are withdrawn, and this clarification is issued to reflect the correct position. The Sunday Times regrets the error and any inconvenience or concern caused as a result.
