The reigning Mrs. World Caroline Jurie was released on bail by court for allegedly causing injury to Mrs Sri Lanka at the beauty contest held earlier this month.
Mrs World Jurie appeared before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court on Monday (19) where the judge ordered to release the suspect on Rs 100,000 surety.
Jurie was accused of pulling off the crown off the winner of the Mrs. Sri Lanka pageant held on April 4 in Colombo claiming that the winner was not eligible as she was divorced.
But the winner Pushpika De Silva said she was not divorced, though she was living separately.
The injury to de Silva was caused while removing the crown minutes after she was announced the winner.
Meanwhile Mrs Sri Lanka was recrowned on the following day after the organisers held that De Silva was eligible to be the winner.
Police reported to the court that an estimated damage of Rs 400,000 has been caused during the incident.
