The lawyers attached to Mullaitivu Bar collectively decided to boycott court proceedings indefinitely condemning the arbitrary interference in judiciary which resulted in the forced resignation of the district Judge T. Saravanarajah last week.
Judge Saravanarajah was forced to resign from all his posts he held and fled the country citing security threats and stress over the case of a disputed archaeological site in Kurunthamalai, Mullaitivu.
The district Bar which convened today decided to boycott proceedings indefinitely demanding justice for the judge and a thorough inquiry that led to his resignation.
A protest condemning the incident is scheduled to be held tomorrow in front of the Mullaitivu District Court premises with the participation of lawyers from eight other districts of North and Eastern provinces.
Meanwhile, a protest was staged in Kilinochchi today against the incident by locals, civil society representatives and lawyers demanding an independent probe. (Pix by N. Lohathayalan)
