A convict serving a sentence at the Welikada prisons has escaped from jail, but arrested later while trying to board a train today, a spokesman for the Prisons Department said.
The inmate had worn an uniform similar to that of Prison officials and walked out through the main gate today morning.
He was arrested short while later at the Maradana station after Prison officials felt suspicious about his movements and followed him.
The man had been convicted in 2015 after being found guilty for committing a murder.
Additional Commissioner General of Prisons and Media Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said an investigation has been launched in the incident.
