The National People's Power (NPP) began signing nomination papers for the upcoming local government elections this morning (March 17) at the party headquarters in Pelawatte, Battaramulla.
The event was attended by political figures, including JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva, NPP General Secretary Nihal Abeysinghe, as well as the leaders contesting the Colombo and Kaduwela Municipal Councils.
Speaking to the media after the signing, Tilvin Silva said, “We are building a system where mayors and council members work directly with the people, rather than engaging in politics based on contracts, bribes, and commissions.”
NPP General Secretary Nihal Abeysinghe expressed confidence in public support, saying, “We believe that people will rally around the NPP for a decisive change in this local government election.”
Meanwhile, Vraie Cally Balthazaar contesting the Colombo Municipal Council for the Mayro's position highlighted the party’s growing influence. “We demonstrated our strength in the parliamentary elections, and we will prove it once again in the local government elections. We will win local government bodies across the country, including the Colombo Municipal Council.”
Ranjan Jayalal pledged a new approach to governance. “So far, the tax money paid by the people of Kaduwela has not been justly utilized. We are ready to take responsibility—not as a privilege, but as a duty—to develop the Kaduwela city.”
