The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Sri Lanka, in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs and the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation, is to launch National Campaign to address sexual harassment in public transport and public spaces.
The campaign will be launched on July 23, the UNFPA said.
The initiative aligns with Sri Lanka’s National Action Plan II (2024-2028) on addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), reinforcing national efforts to combat all forms of gender-based violence (GBV).
The campaign also aligns to the CLEAN Sri Lanka mandate of the Government - to promote a harassment free public transport for all.
The campaign will be officially launched emphasizing the collective responsibility to ensure safety and dignity in public transport for women and girls and men and boys.
