The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert to Naval and fishing communities on strong winds and rough seas.
The warning is valid until June 11, Wednesday 2.30 p.m.
The warning is for those in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
The Department said due to the effect of the active southwest monsoon condition, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be very rough with strong wind gust up to (60-70) kmph.
Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into these sea areas, until further notice. Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard, the warning said.
