A naval search operation off Pesalai, Mannar resulted in the seizure of five sacks of Kerala cannabis, totaling over 188 kilograms (wet weight), on Friday (6).
SLNS Thammanna from the North Central Naval Command, using Inshore Patrol Craft P 151, conducted the operation and discovered the suspicious sacks drifting in the water.
The recovered cannabis weighed approximately 188 kg and 325 g.

The cannabis was handed over to the Pesalai Police for further legal proceedings.
This operation brings the total amount of smuggled Kerala cannabis seized by the Navy and Coast Guard in 2024 to approximately 1,242 kilograms, all of which have been transferred to the authorities for legal action.
