Navy nabbed 98 kilos and 500 grams of Cannabis worth of Rs. 29 million along with three suspects and a dinghy in seas north of Kovilam, Jaffna today (July 6).
Navy's Northern Command during a special raid carried out in the seas north of Kovilam seized the suspicious dinghy while transporting four sacks of Kerala cannabis.Navy said smugglers might have retrieved the stock of cannabis into the dinghy at the International Maritime Boundary Line with a view to smuggle them into the island.
The SLN also says the street value of the seized stock of cannabis is believed to be approx. Rs. 29 million.
According to the sources, the suspects held during this operation were residents of Kiranchi, Pesalai and Pooneryn. The persons taken into the custody with the haul of cannabis and the dinghy were handed over to the Kayts Police for onward legal proceedings.
