Nearly 30, 000 persons from over 7300 families have been affected by adverse weather conditions experienced in the island, according to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC).
According to the DMC's Situation Report released today, 29, 228 persons from 7323 families have been affected by the adverse weather.
Three persons have also been injured while 164 houses have suffered partial damage, according to the DMC.
A total of 1862 persons from 554 families who were affected by the adverse weather are currently being sheltered in 12 safe locations.
The vast majority of those affected are from the North-Western Province, where 25, 678 persons from 6261 families have been affected. Most of the affected persons are from the Puttalam and Mundalama Divisional Secretariat Divisions.
All schools in the Puttalam District remained closed for a second day today owing to the adverse conditions.
Photos show flooding on the Colombo-Puttalam Road at Mahaoya this morning (21). Officials at the DMC's Puttalam office stated that traffic had been disrupted owing to flooding on the road and that the situation could get worse later in the day. They advised motorists using the road to exercise caution.
