New Ombudsman appointed

The Constitutional Council has approved the appointment of retired High Court Judge K.B.K Hirimburegama as the new Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration (Ombudsman).

The position of Ombudsman will be vacant from March 31 this year, Parliament announced. Former Judge of the Supreme Court Justice K.T.Chitrasiri has been serving as the Ombudsman since January 30, 2019.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his International Women’s Day message this year said the government has recognized the need to appoint an Ombudswoman.
