New mobile service with modern technology to be introduced for surveying lands

News

A new mobile service using modern technology will be launched throughout Sri Lanka to expedite and streamline land surveying, Minister of Lands S.M Chandrasena said in Parliament.

He said so while responding to a suggestion made by the members of the Consultative Committee on Lands. Members of the Consultative Committee suggested that land surveying was not being carried out properly and therefore an effective program was needed. MPs further said that a mobile service should be set up throughout Sri Lanka soon for this purpose.

Land Ministry officials who participated in the meeting said that this mobile service will be launched in ‘Thirappane’ area using the latest technology as a pilot project. MPs who were present at the meeting also said that the “Bim Saviya” lands should be surveyed accurately and deeds should be issued soon. MPs pointed out that the people in these lands have problems even in getting a bank loan and that these people have been facing this problem for many years.

The Minister also instructed the officials to survey the lands of the land owners who wish to survey the lands and issue deeds as soon as possible.

The MPs also suggested that deeds be issued for religious places such as temples without deeds. There are about 325 temples in the country without deeds and deeds will be issued expeditiously for those temples under the post of Chief Incumbent, officials said.
