The staff of the Nikawertiya hospital have volunteered to expedite the construction of a new Intensive Care Unit for the hospital to be completed in three weeks.
The new unit will have 15 beds and is being constructed to treat COVID19 patients.
The equipment, beds and machinery are being provided by the Health Ministry while the building is coming up with the help of well-wishers.
The Shramadana campaign by the hospital workers was held under the direction of the Director of the hospital, Dr Pramila Adhikari supported by Dr Asanka Herath who is in charge of the COVID19 ward and Dr Hemantha Wijeratne. (Pix by Priyani Mangalika)
