The Attorney General informed the Court of Appeal Court today that he has instructed Inspector General of Police (IGP) not to take legal action against motorcyclists wearing full-face helmets.
The decision was informed to the Court today by Deputy Solicitor General Parinda Ranasinghe when a Writ petition filed by a resident from Wellawaya was taken up for hearing today.
The petitioner alleged in his petition that Wellwaya police initiated legal action against him for wearing a full face covered helmet and filed the case under Motor Traffic Act amended in 2017.
The Deputy Solicitor General Ranasinghe told the Court that his office informed the police to withdraw the case against the petitioner.
