Distribution of 50,000 Sinopharm vaccines in the Nuwara Eliya District under the programme to eradicate COVID-19 was started at Gamini National School, Nuwara Eliya today (9), Nuwara Eliya District Secretary Nandana Galabada said.
Accordingly, arrangements have been made to vaccinate 3500 personnel engaged in other services including field officers of government institutions in the Nuwara Eliya Divisional Secretariat, the District Secretary said.
Parallelly, arrangements have been made to distribute the vaccine to 6,000 people in Kotmale, Walapane, Hanguranketha and Ambagamuwa Divisional Secretariats on June 10, the Secretary said. Meanwhile, steps have been taken to provide 40,000 vaccines to the elderly community of over 60 in 92 identified high risk Grama Niladhari Divisions, The Nuwara Eliya District Secretary said.

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
